Wilson Chen (China) Saxophone/Ewi (e/c) Wilson Chen started to play saxophone at the age of 13. At 18, he began to study jazz saxophone with famous Shanghainese teacher, Zhang Xiaolu. In 2001 and 2002, he twice won the Yamaha Saxophone championship in China and started performing in well known jazz establishments such as JZ Club. In 2006, Wilson started to play with the JZ all star Big band and subsequently performed with them three times in 2006, 2007 and 2008 at the Shanghai International Jazz Festival. Since 2007, Wilson has been lead saxophone in the Shanghai conservatory of music Jazz Big Band. During Wilson’s short career so far, Jazz Masters such as Bob Mintzer, Kenny Garrett, George Benson, Gene Aitken, and Rusty Higgins's have all given him high praise. |
