Trumpet player and composer JQ Whitcomb gained extensive early experience playing in a variety of musical genres including reggae, funk, classical, ska, and jazz. He studied jazz trumpet at the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio. His teachers at various times have included Kenny Davis, Marcus Belgrave, Gary Bartz, Eddie Daniels, and Wendell Logan. JQ has lived and worked as a musician in Shanghai for over three years now, and has been a major force on the local jazz scene as well as a source of guidance and influence for young, up-and-coming Chinese trumpet players. JQ has shared the stage with such jazz luminaries as Robin Eubanks, Michael Mossman, Neal Creque, Greg Bandy, Peter Dominguez, and Dan Wall.
