Hu Danfeng started playing the trumpet when he was 10, showing early promise; he was admitted to the high school attached to the Shanghai Conservatory in 1993. He demonstrated an early appreciation for jazz, forming his first jazz band in 1997. After enrolling in the Shanghai Conservatory in 1999, he began performing regularly in local institutions such as JZ Club and the Cotton Club. In 2006 he completed his Master’s Degree Program and is currently the trumpet teacher of Brass & String section, and also the jazz trumpet teacher in Modern Music & Percussion departments of the Shanghai Conservatory.
