Dutch guy, living in China since 2006, project manager Dutch training company, big love for music

 

7 years start to learn piano, 12 years guitar, 15 years bass

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What have you/are you studying at jz school?

- Jazz ensemble with JQ

 

It is jz school different from any other music schools you have attended?

- the first music school I attend, but great community admosphere

 

What do you like best about jz school?

- the nice community connected to it, and the JZ club connected to it.

 

Why did you choose to study jazz performance?

- Because jazz is very populair in Shanghai, and something new for me to play.

 

Was there anything you found particularly difficult or challenging when you first set out, if so, how did u overcome it?

- keep going, thats the secret

 

How often did u used to practice?

- not much in the beginning, now many 5 hours a week

 

how often do you practice now?

- so above

 

How do you manage to balance your time to study music, work etc?

- I stopped watching television

 

Does anything inspire you to study, do you have clear study target/goals?

- I want to improve everything, learn more about music theory and I am interested to learn the double bass, next to electric bass

 

What are you working on at present?

- music theory background - scales

 

Is there any jazz part you found difficult, if so, how did you overcome it?

- I find it very difficult to play solo in the beginning (never learned it before) now it's going well, just keep trying

 

Have you had any memorable performance experiences?

- of course:- My best one in Holland: Paradiso, Amsterdam December 2007

- My best one in Shanghai: JZ Club, April 2009 with the jazz ensemble

 

What kind of music do you listen to?

- now a lot of Jazz

 

Who are your favourite musicians?

- The Beatles

- The Beatles, Abbey Road
