More for vocalists (Included in the Instrument Class)

* South American song and groove

A workshop for vocalists where we will approach different styles of South American song (Samba- Tango- Bolero) through learning some songs-or fragments of songs- and understanding the rhythmic structures that define each style. We can also explore vocal improvisation over the grooves and the application of the musical styles to arranging jazz songs.

* The skills session

The sessions cover different aspects of the singer's craft. There will be a strong focus on the &song* itself and through analysis we will gain a greater appreciation of the available repertoire. With a greater understanding of the &song* - especially the text - singers can, if they so wish, progress to writing their own lyrics to existing instrumentals.

In this session we will also learn where to look for the best songs and how best to prepare them for the rhythm section. This &skills* session is all about becoming more self-sufficient.

* The ensemble session

Each ensemble session will feature a different genre of choral music - some taught by ear and some from notation and the focus will be on the appropriate learning process for the music in question. For some this session will also serve as a master-class in vocal arranging.

Morning workshops

At the beginning of each day, students on all the courses come together to participate in a unique sequence of activities which collectively develop concentration, stimulate self-awareness and enhance creativity

Pulse Training - by Stephen Keogh

Pulse lies at the heart of music, and developing one*s own inner pulse is the goal of these sessions. The work fosters awareness 每 of the pulse, of silence, of the other members of the group. This workshop is hugely beneficial to musicians of every kind. Concentration and attention to fine detail are greatly improved. Sensitivity is increased and a higher state of awareness is established.

Vocal Training - by Guillermo Rozenthuler

Group singing is an important part of the day. Learning to blend as an ensemble raises important issues of time and feel not to mention aspects of intonation and diction. As well as serving to foster a feeling of community amongst the participants each singer can also take what they learn from this session and apply it to their individual song performances.

Voice, body, breathing, rhythm - by Guillermo Rozenthuler

A workshop for all skill levels, not necessarily vocalists. Focused on exploring diverse ways of voice production and the creative use of breath and the whole body as an instrument to generate collective grooves and inspire group improvisation, mostly related to some South American music rhythmic cells. A fun approach to singing and learning Latin music, drawing elements from different ethnic traditions - African, Amazonian, Indian and jazz improvisation.

Conducting Skills - by Roland Melia

&A physical image of music* 每 an engaging introduction to conducting.

This examines a basic repertoire of concrete, gestural techniques that can allow the conductor to convey to players or singers, an image of the music in his or her head.

The student notices a balance between interior and exterior activity; between the development of an increasingly specific rhythmic and sonic awareness and appropriate physical manifestations of tempo, rhythmic weight, dynamics and texture of sound.

Mastering the requirements of an upbeat that gives a clear expression of tempo and connecting further gestures to the specific demands of the music will lead to the goal of carrying the sound in the hands.

Price: 2800 RMB (2500 RMB if sign up before September 30th)
