Gypsy Jazz Workshop on October 15th

Gypsy Jazz masters, Jaygo and Etienne Jeanne, will present a hands-on introduction to what makes Gypsy Jazz Swing.

About Gypsy Jazz:

Gypsy Jazz is a form of jazz created by the Belgian/Romany guitar player, Django Reinhardt. Django combined traditional jazz and bee-bop with continental "gypsy" guitar technique to invent a new style of jazz, nowadays known as gypsy jazz or gypsy swing.

The rhythm guitar is used in Gypsy Jazz and is played using a special strumming method known as ¡°La Pompe¡±. La Pompe is similar to the ¡®Boom-Chick¡± method used in Bluegrass Styles, it is what gives the music its fast swinging freedom. Other instruments pertinent to Gypsy Jazz are the violin, clarinet, bass, accordion, and hand percussion.

Gypsy Jazz at JZ School:

Thursday October 15th at 7.30pm at JZ School
