At JZ Kids, we wholeheartedly believe that through music and movement, children are able to express themselves better and learn about the world around them in ways that emphasize individuality and creativity.  It has been proven that being exposed to music at an early age has a positive impact on developing minds and bodies, and it is our goal at JZ School to unlock your child's musical potential. Whether it is our Melody foundation classes, group or private instrument lessons, dance, or theatre, or holiday activity camps, your child will be able to find a creative outlet at JZ School. 

ABRSM PRACTICAL MUSICIANSHIP(G1–G2)

(Age 5 +)

The aim of this subject is to develop the student’s ability to “think in sound”; an essential skill for every musician i.e. the ability to produce music which they perceive internally and in the imagination, whether through playing by ear, singing, and reading from notation or through improvisation. Practical musicianship exams are open to singers as well as instrumentalists.

A CAPELLA ENSEMBLE

(Age 8-12)

The JZ School A Capella Ensemble, lead by vocalist Kate Lewis, will combine the beauty of a capella performance with the exciting challenge of arranging instrumental tunes for voice.  Students will be given the opportunity to select songs to perform at the final concert and then will work together, with Kate’s help, to create lines and harmonies to fill out the sound. In this group, students will learn teamwork, voicing, rhythmic vocal patterns, and more.

BALLET

(Age 2-3, 3-4, 4 -5, 5-6, 6+)

As our most popular dance class, ballet offers your children a relaxed setting in which they can focus on learning the fundamentals of ballet.  Each class is designed to help your little ballerinas learn the joy of dance through stretching, posing, jumping, and twirling. 

CHILDREN’S VOCAL CLASS

(Age 6-8)

Children's choir is an ideal way for your kids to learn to sing, develop language skills, and make new friends whilst having a lot of fun! In this class, the young divas and crooners will learn and play many musical games designed to build up different aspects of musicianship such as keeping a steady beat, singing independently, and singing in tune, matching pitch, and many other skills!

GROOVY GUITAR I

(Age 5-7 & 8-12)

Students will learn the note names of the guitar strings and the notes in first position. They will learn to play the natural C major scale, basic open chord voicings and very basic chord progressions. They will learn to play basic single line melodies in first position or on one string and sight read basic rhythms up to half notes in first position and without accidentals.

GROOVY GUITAR II

(Age 5-7 & 8-12)

Students will continue to learn the notes in first position. They will continue to learn natural major scales as well as begin to learn the natural minor scale. They will continue to learn more open chord voicings and put them together in simple chord progressions. They will also learn about power chords and apply them in a 12-bar blues in E. Students will learn simple melodies in first position or on one string and sight read basic rhythms up to quarter notes in first position and without accidentals.

KIDS/JUNIOR ENSEMBLE

(Age 6-12)

Kids can learn to play together and interact in a musical group and gain valuable performance experience in friendly environments. Ensemble classes are not only just for advanced students, they can be appropriate for children with only 6 months to 1 years experience on their instrument. Chosen songs are appropriate for younger learners and include famous pop songs, TV theme tunes and music from movies. More advanced students may wish to learn Rock or Jazz. The ensemble classes are stratified according to musical ability rather than age.

MELODY FOUNDATION

(Age 3 - 4)

Early exposure to music can have a profound and positive effect on young minds. Through exploring the wonders of music, children can not only gain a musical head start, but also develop mathematical and linguistic skills as well- all while having fun!

Here at JZ Kids Melody, we’ve designed courses to nurture your child’s love of music. Through games, art, storytelling, and exposure to some of the greatest pieces ever written, we provide a unique environment for musical appreciation and enthusiasm.

With instructors who are passionate about Music and Kids, and in small class sizes of 3-8, kids can build the confidence to express ideas and emotions and stories through music. In this English/Chinese bilingual class environment kids can engage in tempos, rhythms, melodies, and languages to develop their love of playing and music.

MELODY TAKE-OFF

(Age 4+)

“Melody Take Off”, will be the next building block for very young students, who have enjoyed course time in “Melody Foundation”.

At 4 years old they are ready for the next level of essential skills, while being introduced to basic keyboard and recorder instrument technique.

As well as reinforcing melody, rhythm, sight reading/singing & aural’ skills, this 15week course will give students the added challenge of two handed instruments,

From here, kids & parents in consultation with JZ course instructor can decide whether they would like to take their instrument (brass, wood wide, keyboard, guitar, drums etc) they want to focus on.
 

MUSICAL THEATER

(Age 5-7, 8-12)

At JZ Kids we believe in activity with education for the long term, so kids won’t just learn the moves and shakes for one performance. Our Musical Theater classes give kids a rounded Arts foundation, from basic music theory, to singing, to expression through movement and dramatic performance to the visual arts and stage creation. Children will be able to take these valuable performance building blocks home with them to form a solid base for their artistic development.

JZ Kids Musical Theatre is taught by dedicated instructors that are passionate about Musical Theatre and will give your children individual and caring attention. So far productions have included: Jungle Book, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Peter Pan and Mary Poppins.
 

 PERCUSSION FUN TIME

(Age 3-5, 6-10)

Our newest percussion class is guaranteed to have your children asking for more. Using alternative forms of percussion, such as pots and pans, this unique and exciting class will help young musicians develop a keen sense of keeping the beat. Students will also be introduced to a range of percussion instruments and different beats. The end of class performance showcases these new talents.

PIANO PIONEERS I

(Age 5-7 & 8-12)

Students will learn the fingering system, 3 different notes and rest values. Black key approach will be introduced for good hand and finger posture, then progression on to white keys. Learning note names melodic and harmonic intervals, eighth note rhythms (in both straight and swing styles) and the development of Legato and Staccato touch.

PIANO PIONEERS II

(Age 5-7 & 8-12)

Students will progress to understanding intervals, major scale structure through the concept of half steps, whole steps and tetra chords. A repertoire of over 40 short pieces in 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4 time and the keys of C, G, and D Major with shifting hand positions. Sharps and Flats, Anacrusis, common musical terms and the concept of dynamics.

PRIVATE LESSONS

(Age 5+)

Let your child’s love for music and creative juices flow in our private classes. Private lessons on most instruments are offered at competitive prices and are taught by professional musicians.

HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES

JZ Kids offer creative, fun and educational activities throughout the year, including the summer and winter vacations. For toddlers there are “Creative Camps” comprising music, art, dance and drama, also, Musical Theater Camps are offered for ages 5 to 11, and for would be young stars and divas. Junior Ensemble Camps for ages 8 to 16.
