Jazzy Juniors Program  (age 5-12)

 

These group instrument classes are especially designed for children. The classes use appropriate and recommended resources and are delivered in a pedagogical style appropriate to foster interest and enthusiasm in music. The classes are delivered by instructors qualified to teach music to children in a group setting.

The course offerings include group instrument classes in two of the most popular modern instruments, guitar and piano

Groovy Guitar I

Wednesday: (7-9 y/o) 5:00-5:55PM

Thursday: (5-7 y/o) 5:00-5:55PM

Saturday: (5-7 y/o) 2:30-3:25PM

Students will learn the note names of the guitar strings and the notes in first position.  They will learn to play the natural C major scale, basic open chord voicings and very basic chord progressions.  They will learn to play basic single line melodies in first position or on one string and sight read basic rhythms up to half notes in first position and without accidentals. 

 

Groovy Guitar II

 

Tuesday: (5-7 y/o) 5:00-5:50PM

 

Students will continue to learn the notes in first position.They will continue to learn natural major scales as well as begin to learn the natural minor scale.They will continue to learn more open chord voicings and put them together in simple chord progressions.They will also learn about power chords and apply them in a 12-bar blues in E.Students will learn simple melodies in first position or on one string and sight read basic rhythms up to quarter notes in first position and without accidentals.

 

 

Piano Pioneers I

 

Sunday: (7-9): 1:00-1:55PM

 

Students will learn the fingering system, 3 different notes and rest values. Black key approach will be introduced for good hand and finger posture, then progression on to white keys. Learning note names melodic and harmonic intervals, eighth note rhythms (in both straight and swing styles) and the development of Legato and Staccato touch.

 

 

Piano Pioneers II

 

Saturday: (7-9 y/o) 2:30-3:25PM

 

Students will progress to understanding intervals, major scale structure through the concept of half steps, whole steps and tetra chords. A repertoire of over 40 short pieces in 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4 time and the keys of C, G, and D Major with shifting hand positions. Sharps and Flats, Anacrusis, common musical terms and the concept of dynamics.
 

Junior Ensemble

Flexible on weekends

Kids can learn to play together and interact in a musical group and gain valuable performance experience in friendly environments. Ensemble classes are not only just for advanced students, they can be appropriate for children with only 6 months to 1 years experience on their instrument. Chosen songs are appropriate for younger learners and include famous pop songs, TV theme tunes and music from movies. The ensemble classes are stratified according to musical ability rather than age.
